Joachim Quoden

 

Joachim Quoden has been fully licensed as lawyer in Bonn, Germany, since June 1995.

For 13 years he worked as in-house lawyer of the company “Der Grüne Punkt – Duales System Deutschland GmbH” which is dealing with the organisation of the selective collection of packaging throughout all of Germany. The company is well-known by its trade mark “The Green Dot” and the Yellow Bin and sack emplyoed to collect used packaging from households.

Starting January 2001, he served as Head of International Affairs of DSD and was vested with general commercial powers of representation in 2003. Also in January 2001 he became Secretary General of PRO EUROPE, the umbrella organisation of 35 packaging recovery organisations located in 33 European countries and in Ontario, Canada as well as Israel. From April 2005 until February 2013 he was the Managing Director of this organisation.

In May 2014 he was appointed as Managing Director of EXPRA (Extended Producer Responsibility Alliance) which is an alliance of packaging recovery organizations which are owned by obliged industry and work on a non Profit Basis. Currently, 19 packaging recovery organizations from 18 countries from all around the world are members of EXPRA.

Mr. Quoden posseses very detailed knowledge of the implementation of the Packaging Directive in the different European Member States as well as in other countries around the world. His advice is frequently solicited in the course of implementing and amending the respective packaging legislation in various countries.

He is a member of the German lawyers association (http://www.anwaltverein.de), the association of lawyers in Bonn (http://www.bonner.anwaltverein.de), the Product Stewardship Institute in Boston, US, http://www.productstewardship.us/, the Global Product Stewardship Council, http://www.globalpsc.net/ as well as the International Solid Waste Association (ISWA), http://www.iswa.org/. Finally he is a member of PRO BASKETS, an association of companies to support the work with young talents in basketball in Bonn (http://www.probaskets.de).

 

 

He is an expert of the ISO global standardisation project SIS/TK 165/AG 10 Packaging and Environment that has developed between 2009 and 2012 global standards on packaging optimisation, recycling, reuse and energy recovery.

Since October 2013 he serves as chair of the Legal Issues Working Group of ISWA.
